Used Record, CD & Tape Buying
Have a large collection, or just a few records, CDs or tapes you’re looking to sell or trade for store credit? We buy and trade records, CDs and tapes! We mostly focus on newer albums (1960’s and newer) and a handful of select genres. We strive for transparency, so read the below to find out if selling or trading-in albums at Mobius is right for you.
What We Buy
We buy records, CDs and tapes in playable condition, with complete packaging (jackets, inserts, j-cards, digipaks, etc.) for the following genres:

What We Don’t Buy
-
Records, CDs or tapes with scratches, skips, significant pops, warps, or in otherwise unplayable condition. In general, we do not buy items that warrant a Fair or Poor grade.

Records, CDs or tapes without jackets, inserts or j-cards, or with packaging that is in poor condition, moldy, etc.

45’s/7”s, with the exception of punk, hardcore and metal 7”s

12" singles / DJ singles - with the exception of some hip hop releases

We do not buy 78's of any sort

Classical, holiday music, big band, folk, easy listening, spoken word, new age, religious music and children’s albums
Dropping Off
If you’re looking to sell fewer than 10 albums, you can just head into the shop any time Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday and we can generally price your items while you wait. If we’re particularly busy that day, we may ask you to leave your collection with us for a few hours to give us adequate time to evaluate and price your items.
If you’re looking to sell more than 10 albums, you can drop off your collection any time Monday-Friday. We will ask you to fill out and sign a buying sheet, check in your collection, and give you an estimate on how long it will take for us to get back to you with a buying offer. Depending on how many collections we are working on at the moment and how many records you are looking to sell, it can take from a few days to a week for us to work through your collection. If you are looking to sell 100+ records, please give us a call before dropping off.
Grading, Identifying Pressing / Version and Pricing
When buying albums, we visually evaluate, clean, and often play test each individual album to determine the item's condition and assign a grade according to Goldmine Grading Guide standards. Once we have assigned a grade, we use Discogs.com to determine the exact pressing / version of your album using catalog numbers, barcodes, matrix numbers, runout groove etching / stamps and other identifiers. Based on your item’s condition and pressing / version, we conduct pricing research on Discogs using the item’s sales history and current availability on the secondary market. Taking all of these factors into consideration, we determine our in-store sale price for each item.
What We Pay
For items with a sale price of $5 or more: We offer a third (1/3rd) of our intended in-store sale price if you’re looking to receive a cash payment (cash, check, PayPal, Venmo), or 1/3rd of the in-store sale price + 10% if you’d like to trade in for store credit.
For items with a sale price below $5: We offer $0.35 for all albums that we intend to place in our $1-3 bargain bins.
Offers & Rejected Offers
After we have cleaned and priced your collection, we will contact you with an offer price based on your preferred payout method. For collections of more than 10 records, if you choose to not accept our offer, we will assess a cleaning & appraisal fee of $1 per record.
High Value Collections & Consignment
On a case-by-case basis, we do offer consignment at a higher payout rate for high value collections and items. Consignment terms will be negotiated when dropping off your collection/items and paid out after the items sell.
